4 Corners Meet in Second Life

After abit of confusion and some teasing, we finally were able to meet in Second Life. We took the time to sit and pose before we went and explored the world.

Implications of Second Life

Second life opens up a new environment to create art. Some of the places that I visited were gardens and sanctuaries that could not possibly exist in the real world. It is interesting to see the different artistic interpretations that are in Second Life since the limitations of creativity are basically the limitations of a person's imagination.
Second Life also seems like a society all of its own. It is fun and informative to visit places and chat with people that you would never have the opportunity to meet in real life. There is also the chance to learn things from a new perspective. However, It is definitely and adult only site. Were my children to visit, I would be very concerned of the things that they would be exposed to.

Answer to question regarding Second Life Experience

Second Life enhances the teaching and learning experience by allowing students the opportunity to interact and learn about different cultures. It also affords them the opportunity to visit other points of interest and countries they may not have ever had the opportunity to visit. Students can engage in ways that are not possible outside the virtual world.

Blackboard Vista Chat vs. Second Life Meeting

Although it is challenging to navigate in Second Life I believe it is better than meeting in the Blackboard Vista chat. For one is more entertaining and fun to be able to see different avatars, colors, sceneries, etc. In the Blackboard Vista chat is only words behind words. There is really nothing exciting about that. On both sides you can be comfortable in your pijamas while meeting in Second Life or chating in Blackboard Vista. Second Life is creative freedom, is educational, and it has plenty of beautiful art. I would prefer to meet in Second Life than in the Blackboard Vista chat rooms.

Museum of Robots

I vist the Museum of Robots in Kubrick. It is a place that is dedicated to the appreciation of robots. It's mission is to promote an understanding of the place of robots in popular culture, art and science. It is realize through exhibits, entertainment, and events. It is a pretty interesting place. Pretty cool for the kids.

The Women of Tomorrow?

Garden of Apollo

The Lost Garden of Apollo is a place where you can relax and enjoy beautiful sim for your private moments or just plain relaxation. There are plenty of relaxing and romantic places with beautiful gardens, waterfall, and secluded places where you can snuggle with your favorite person.

Iraqi War Memorial

North Africa Campaign Museum

In World vs. Real World

The virtual society is very different from our real society. With the virtual society you can fly all over the world without actually leaving your home. You can also talk to people from all over the world without even knowing who they are...it's almost like a visual chat room. You also have the ability to take a tour of the world all within a few hours providing that these places are available in Second Life although you don't get the same effect that you would if you were actually there.

Meeting People in England

This is me in England where I meet this young man from Oxford University in England. He too was doing an assignment for his class. He was very polite and helpful in explaining to me some of the things that can be done in Second Life.

China Town

I decided to visit China Town. Strangly enough, I found that some of the same things that trouble me in the real world, troubled me in Second Life. I do not like to be in places where there are alot of people that I do not know. With the exception of the ski resort, all of the other places were not crowded at all. China Town was rather populated and I was uncomfortable. I took a minute on a swing then went to the roof of a building to get away from the other people. I felt that was rather strange. The pictures below are ones of me on the roof.

Enchanted Forest of Faries and Pixies

The stop at the Art Sanctuary caused me to think of places that I could visit that were not possible in the real world. I found this garden and fell in love with it. I flew over a waterfall, took time to swing on a swing, and took a stroll on a path lined by colorful mushrooms. I took more than one picture...I even captured a few faries on film...I thought that was impossible!

Art Sanctuary

I stopped to visit an art sanctuary. It was the first place that I visited that had a surreal feel to it. Much of the art would not be possible in the real world but it had quite a few beautiful places to stop for a picture....I decided to sit on the bench and look at the water for a while.

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

One of the places I went to was the United States Holocaust Museum. I was impressed by the variety of educational locations that could be visited.

Tahoe Mountain Ski Resort

Even though I am not really interested in skiing, I decided to visit Tahoe Mountain Ski Resort. I found a beautiful water fall and decided to take a picture standing near it. I fell in a few times and my hair did not even get wet! Not too bad for my first attempt at a picture.

Great Wall of China

This is a picture of the Great Wall of China. I had to fly to get the largest amount of the wall in the picture.

PSU World Campus

This is a picture from the Penn State University World Campus. As you can see, there is also snow on the ground in this photo. I was looking for Penn State in State College, PA but this was the closest thing that I could find. The area was really nice though. There were a lot of old stone front buildings here.

L'Arc de Triomphe

This is a picture of a sign outside of the L'Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France. The arc is huge and wouldn't fit in the picture. This was probably one of the most detailed cities that I walked around. There was also plenty of information sites in this area.

Oahu, Hawaii

This is a picture of Oahu, Hawaii. There were actual Tiki torches lit up around the island. It was nice to see Palm Trees and imagine warm weather again. :)

Princeton University

This is a picture of Second Life Princeton University. Although I am not sure if this is how it looks in real life, it seems pretty detailed. As you can see, there is even snow on the ground.
